When you visit Carl Nielsen’s Childhood Home, you step into a house with chairs to sit in and books to flip through—not a traditional museum. The scent of tobacco still lingers in the rooms, along with the rosin that was once used to prepare violin strings.
Carl Nielsen’s upbringing in central Funen was shaped by the folk music that thrived in the area. At six, he placed his own violin under his chin for the first time, and by nine, he had written his first polka. In the museum’s exhibition, you can learn much more about his childhood, his family, life in the region, and, of course, his music.
