International Carl Nielsen Conference

The world’s leading Carl Nielsen scholars are coming together in Odense from 22 to 24 October for a conference to mark the official opening of the Carl Nielsen Centre. 

  • How do the creative processes unfold when works are created?
  • How does the music of the past influence that of the present?
  • How does the narrative change when female composers are included in music history?
  • Where is Carl Nielsen research heading?

 

The conference will take place at the H.C. Andersen Centre, at the Danish National Academy of Music and at Museum Odense.

Anyone interested is welcome to register for the conference as an audience member (see below).
On Friday at 5.00 pm, there will be a free concert in the concert hall of the Academy of Music featuring works by Nielsen and female composers of his time, see more.

      How did Nielsen’s interest in counterpoint and music from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries influence aesthetic ideals and stylistic developments in his music and beyond?

      How does the current interest in female and marginalised composers reshape the contexts and concepts of musical cultures in Nielsen’s time and beyond? Papers: Elise Ligaard, Laura Nørholt, Maria Claustad, Sanne Lorenzen, Nanna Staugaard Villagomez.
